Up until now I haven’t reported on Substack blogs or newsletters, if only because I didn’t know where to begin. There’s a lot of good stuff on Substack, and it seems to be the current fad — plus it provides better visibility and discoverability. That said, it is a proprietary platform. I’ve seen platforms come and go.
My solution? Go here for a list of sexually explicit blogs and Substacks. But posts like this one will mention individual posts on people’s substacks (although I will try to give credit to the substack when I can).
Recently I came across Aesthetica by Allie Rowbottom (Home, W), a novel about a former Instagram celebrity who intends to try a new experimental surgery to restore her body to its pristine physical self. It’s more of a feminist look at the beauty culture than at sexuality per se (book reviews here and here). I was tickled to read Rowbottom’s account of the annual AVN conference (where she referenced another essay “Big Red Son” written 25 years earlier by David Foster Wallace about visiting the same convention).
